You've gotten good answers so far from the other users. If you need info on reputable companies to get professional help with your blown drive, I have received recommendations on the following: ESS Data Recovery and Ontrack Data Recovery.

Ontrack has a better name in the industry and charges $100 to evaluate your drive. They estimate that recovery costs anywhere from $500 to $2500.

ESS has a fine reputation (although much smaller than Ontrack) and will evaluate for free. They will give you a recovery quote based upon which files you tell them that you want to recover.

Good Luck.

Is the drive making clicking sounds or other noises? If so then you need profressional help. If the drive just won't boot up then you can probably get the data off by placing it into another computer. Just open the other pc and remove the cables from the cd rom drive and attach it to the hard drive. After you boot up open my computer...the drive should be there as D: and then you can open it and copy files from it onto your desktop.

Have a look at Spinrite from Gibson Research on the website below.

Depends on what 'broken' means though.

I recently had a drive crash that meant that the BIOS simply didn't 'see' the drive so nothing I could do except send it back to the manufacturer for exchange under warranty.

You do have backups for all your data don't you ?

You did not say what happened to your hard drive
You can try here and download the recovery software.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/Zero-Assumption-Recovery.shtml

You could take it to a specialist who will recover it for you but it will be rather expensive

You could try going to the manufacturers of the hd they might have software that can help

What make of hd is it?
What is the problem you are having ?

With great difficulty. You usually have to take it to a technician to try and save the data off of it, and they will charge you a fair price for it too!
