I am 15 weeks pregnant and I had gestational diabetes with my last child. I am going in for a early glucose test in two weeks, but the doc wanted me to start pricking my finger and testing now just so she can see what is it usually. The last few day I have been feeling shakey and have a headach and just can't seem to control my blood sugar. The doctor never told me what a normal pregnant blood sugar should be. Does anyone know? It has been 60 before and right now its up to 210. Which way should it be, up or down?

The only thing with sugar I have had today is a glass of caffeine free coke.

I have type 2 diabetes and have since I was 2 and I am now 25 and have a beautiful 9 month old son. When you are pregnant the Dr's don't want you bloodsugar above 130, it sounds like they need to put you on insulin for your gestational diabetes. The was it was explained to me, that no matter how low you bloodsugar is (which from the syptoms you are describing it sounds like a low bloodsugar) the baby will be fine, but the higher your bloodsugars are it uses more of the oxygen in the amniotic fluid therefore taking away the amoniotic fluid from the baby which is not good. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions, and good luck.

60 is WAY too low, almost diabetic coma low, and 210 is WAY too high. I am not certain what the exact amount should be, but my mother has diabetes and those numbers are very bad. Do not let your blood sugar hit 40, you can go into a coma, and I know it can't be good for the baby. And if I am not mistaken about 180 is very bad, I know over 200 is. Plus those symptoms you have been having are classic signs of blood sugar being out of wack.

I would suggest googling gestational diabetes and seeing if you can find a website that tells you. If not then call your doctor first thing in the morning and get him to tell you. He would know better for YOUR body anyway. I just can't believe he neglected to tell you, how stupid is that. Make sure you call him in the morning. In the mean time, try keeping it as close to 150 as you can, and you should be okay for today at least. I know it's going to be hard, but there are some tricks to raising or lowering it pretty quick though. If your sugar is too high, try cinnamin, I know it sounds weird but it works. I told you my mother has diabetes. Also mustard works too. If it is too low, the things that raise it the best are barbeque sauce or ketchup and orange juice. You don't won't to raise it too high or too fast though, so unless it is REALLY low, just stick to eating bread if it's low. Plus lie down if your sugar is too low, movement uses some of it, and the only way for it to level out is to lie down for a little while after eating something with sugar in it.

Good luck. I hope this helps.

I was told that pre-meal blood sugar should be 70-105 & post-meal 70-130. I was managed by a diabetes clinic and they said that ANY reading over 130 was a concern and that if I had more than 2 readings out of these ranges in a week I had to have a change in medication. They also said that if my blood sugar ever went up above 180 that I'd have to go on insulin. This is NOT an indication of what they will do with you but that is what I was told. I never had to go on insulin. I managed my getstational diabetes by eating a strict American Diabetic Association diet that was customized to my weight & needs by the diabetic clinic; and by taking Metformin (generic for glucophage). Only your doctor can determine the right path for you. One thing that is key to leveling out your blood sugar is to eat frequently. Long periods of time without food can cause your liver to start dumping stored sugar into the blood stream and can cause a spike. Luckily I craved fruit and not sweets with my last pregnancy because for me, at least, fruits didn't spike my blood sugar. Good luck! (email me if you want: thyladydulcinea at yahoo)

This is my first pregnacy. Diabetes runs high on my fathers side. When i took my 1 hr test the results came back at 243. He said that was extremely high. I don't rember the number he said that the test should be to be considered normal. I do know that the fasting should be no more that 90 and the breakfast, lunch, and dinner should be no more than 120. You have a sensitvity to sugar. Regardless if its diet or not u are going to still have to be careful.

I had gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy. You need to control your bread and fruit intake as well as your sugar intake. Your blood sugar should be between 80 and 120, 100 being ideal.

I had gestational diabetes and they wanted my sugar to be less than 80. 210 is way to high you may need insulin.
