I bought an ovulation kit 3 months ago and usually start to see ferns for 3 days during the course that I am fertile. This time, just after ovulated I checked and I had no ferms (returned to non fertile stage) but I just checked yesterday and I had clear ferns. My AF is due around the 13 (5 to 6 days) so I'm trying to understand why I am still seeing ferns. Anyone have a similar experience and can explain?

Hi,

As with the previous answer ferning is based on the salt level in your body. However in some women ferning occurs as a sign of pregnancy. If AF doesn't arrive on 13/14 then it would do no harm to take a pregnancy test.

I personally used the ferning method (I test most fertility products) and found it unreliable - ferning was occuring when there was absolutely no way I could be fertile. I would recommend using the BBT method along with testing for ovulation.

Best of luck

Jo

The ferning you see is based on the salt in your saliva which increases as estrogen increases. It is typical for women to have slightly elevated estrogen beginning a week or so before their period. The ferning isn't an indicator of pregnancy or not it just happens sometimes. Good luck to you!!!
