1 John 2:15-16 Do not love the world or the things in the world. The love of the Father is not in those who love the world; for all that is in the world -- the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, the pride in riches -- comes not from the Father but from the world.
I don't pretend to understand the mind of a person like Manson, but the lyrics seem to set the singer as the personal Jesus for his fans or at least his friend in the song. He's spooky and somehow I don't sense that he is advancing God's kingdom. Perhaps I'm missing something. However, he need not be a practicing satanist to be worldly and to demean Jesus and His gospel. I mean, equating Jesus with phone sex, (whether Depeche Mode or Marilyn Manson, or Bill Gaither) is not my idea of witnessing for Christ, nor promoting a Christian environment. This notion won't matter to some, but it will matter to a follower of Christ.
Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
May God bless you and your service for His kingdom.

Hey, sorry I'm so late... I'm a Christian too and I also like Marilyn Manson. It is sort of weird that he's known to be anti-Christian, and then he comes out with this song (but yes, we both know he's not glorifying religion). I've wondered myself if it's such a good idea to be listening to this kind of stuff... but isn't it what you get out of it that matters? Look, if this song was really anti-Christian, you can ignore the meaning or even the song if you really want to. But would God really hate you if you chose ignore an offensive meaning in a song? Of course not, right? If you were to ignore everything out there that seems like it's ""bad"", well, that's not good either. You aren't supposed to hate other people's opinions because they aren't yours. You are supposed to accept/tolerate other people's opinions even if you don't agree with them, because God told you to love others, not to argue with them about opinions. They have theirs, and you have yours.(Luke 19:1-10) I love Marilyn Manson's music too, and I don't think God would mind as long as I don't AGREE with MM's anti-Christ statements.

First of all I know I'm a bit late but let me clear something up. Satanism is not the worship of the devil it is a form of atheism. If someone tells you they are a theistic satanist there is no such thing. You are all referring to devil worshipers which are often mixed up since the name satanists sound like satan. Second, your right MM is not a satanist he is an atheist and has a lot of symbolism in what he does and his messages get confusing a lot.

Marilyn Manson is a LaVeyan Satanist - they don't deny this and they're a minister in it. But LaVeyan Satanists don't worship Satan or gods but merely worship themselves.

Actually the song was originally done by Depeche Mode. And, no, Marilyn Manson is NOT a satanist. What he does and sings i shocks people. Its all an act. The song "Personal Jesus" has nothing to do with Jesus.

It's a Depeche Mode song from 1989, and according to Martin Gore, who wrote it (so he'd probably know) it was inspired by Priscilla Presley's book 'Elvis And Me', where she described their relationship.
Johnny Cash did a great cover of this, also.
Marilyn Manson isn't a satanist, he's a businessman. And a very, very good one.

i agree, i think he's just a heavy metal musician using tricks like the satanist thing to get publicity, which he did well coz he's a very intellegent person.
btw saying MM is a satanist for covering personal Jesus would imply that Depeche Mode are also satanists as they wrote and oriignanlly released the song in 1990.
