Through the internet and city records, find out what year the house was built in and find out the names of the previous owners. Then look into those owners through-once again-the internet or records and find out if someone died or not. I have never actually tried it before but I have tried looking up people on the internet and it worked.

let a cat into the house first and let it move around in all rooms. a cat will not enter a house where someone died. if it does then it will ward off all the evil souls away.
