Why are some people controlling? Especially family? Why do some people control others instead of just living their own life??

sometimes it's because they feel they can't control their own lives. sometimes they feel that they need power over others to make sure they don't get hurt or over-powered themselves. sometimes it's just a matter of their own human nature.
try not to get caught in their trap. if you are, then get outta there or in a family case, stick through it until you can get out.

People control others because they want to be the one making all the decisions all the time. Parents, for example, want to make choices for their kids because when the kids were little, they had to (choosing what to eat, clothes they wore, bed time, etc.). When the kids get older it's hard for the parents to stop doing that and learn that their children are growing up and can make their own decisions. So for parents, it's force of habit. They can't just shut it off because they've been doing it for so long. For people in a relationship (husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend), they may be lashing out because as child/teenager they weren't able to have any control(because their parents did everything) and now they want to have it all.

Family .... yyyyeah ... Overbearing, overprotective, can't fix themselves let alone other peoples problems type thing??? How about you focus on you, let them know that while you appreciate what they're TRYING to do, they're not really helping. Try to remain calm and tell them to please let you have the room you need to grow .... or something. TRY to be nice about it - hollering at people doesn't seem to work a good deal of the time.

because they are insecure. They try to make up for it by controlling others. It takes their mind off their own problems.

They can't get a grip on their own problems ~ so it's easier ( and lame ) of them to use someone else as their escape goat ! They have major issues ~ not you !
