The best time to visit Las Vegas would be any day from Sunday until Thursday. The weekends are always going to be more expensive. As for the months, it depends on what you want to take advantage of. If you enjoy the sun and want to use the pool, or take advantage of some of the roller coasters, go between May and September. July and August are the hottest. During the winter months, the rates will be a lot less. Don't even think of going the weekend of Feb. 16-18, 2007 because the NBA All Star game will be held in LV and rooms on the strip are all over $400 a night. Lots of decent rates at downtown hotels. The Golden Nugget is really nice. But for your first time, try to get on the strip. Try New York New York, Luxor, Excalibar, MGM, Treasure Island, The Flamingo, and Balleys (all mid week).
Have fun!

Really this can vary so much depending on what type of conventions are going on during any given time. If you can do a Sun - Thurs instead of weekend travel that will be better in cost.
Figure out dates you are interested in and contact a local travel agency and if the dates you give them aren't to good in cost if you have some flexibility then they can usually look then at maybe the week before or after for better space.
Please don't call and say "I can go whenever is the cheapest". Searching for travel does not work this way. Besides I have NEVER found a person who can go anytime. All dates are date specific so have some dates ready.
Have a Great Time!

Vegas is never cheap. If you don't waste your money on slots, you waste it on table games. If you don't waste your money gambling, you'll waste it on shows, shopping or other attractions. There is almost no end of opportunities to squander your money in Vegas.
However, there are some good times of the year to go in terms of airfare and hotel room rates. The best thing to do is to go to Expedia.com and check out the flight/hotel deals. Read the reviews of the people who have stayed there and keep experimenting with different dates. You will soon see a pattern emerge of where the cheap dates are and when the more expensive weeks are.
If you fly out Sunday and stay until Thursday you will save money on the hotel, and many of the table games will be cheaper. At the weekend the price of nightclubs, gambling, bars, pretty much everything goes up.

Weekend prices can be 3 to 10 times the rates for Monday - Thursday. Whether or not a midweek date is expensive or not depends on whether there is a convention, sporting event, etc. Many large strip hotels publish calendars showing room prices for each day for several months in advance.

We went the first of May last year. We booked hotel and flight from Maine on Expedia and stayed at the Mirage (5 stars!!) for less than $600 each (two people went) for 5 nights!! It was a little hot one day (think POOL!) but only rained half day.
