Depends on the game. The safest way to check is email customer support of the game (so you have a get out of jail free card). The rule of thumb though is that most mmorpgs are registered with a serial number or product code to an email address/log-in. Hope this helps.
So:
(remb email customer service and ask them first)
1.) Yes you will need to reinstall it not because its in the memory but rather it was saved to your HDD *hard drive and to your registry... and when you change HDD's you lose your HDD/registry.
2.) Yes your code will work during the install because the serial number checks against the protection on the CD itself (star-force etc..).
3.) Yes the game will work IF you have the proper log-in. The code on the computer will check against your serial number on the mmorpg's database.
4.) If all else fails.... email customer support. And they can send you a new serial number (you did email them b4 right?!?).

Hope this helps.

If the code you put in was AFTER you installed and started playing the game, then yes you will have to reinstall it.
