When I use Windows Explorer and look at my folders' properties, they are marked at read only. I can easily drag and drop files from any folder and/or drive (including the CD drive) to any other folder. However, when I try to drag a file over from a shared network folder on my wife's PC I get a 'read only' message and the file won't copy. I get a message that says 'Access Denied'. This process used to work fine. I've tried defragging and ran checkdisk with the fix flag on but to no avail. Suggestions please.

Info per questions:
1. I do have rights to that folder... in thumbnail mode in explorer, I can see the actuall thumbnail of the photo.
2. Both computers are in the same workgroup.
3. Sharing was set up with not password protection.
4. If I use exporer's file properties to 'turn off' the read only and click apply and the OK. I go back to the folder and it's set to read only again.

Right click on "start" and your Windows Explore will open (that is your complete file system). Then click on "tools" and then "folder options." There is a feature in there where you can undue the "read only" command.

Hope that helps.

Perhaps you have set up the shared folder as read only? Check the properties. Are you performing the copy from you wife's PC or the machine that's got the shared folder? Make sure the destination folder on you wife's PC isn't set to read-only as well.

Also, any files that originally came from a CD will be flagged as read-only, so you won't be able to edit them without changing the properties first (But you should be able to copy them)

Make sure the folder you're trying to copy from has sharing enabled. Make sure both computers are in the same work group. Ensure the same user is created on both computers. You can copy the folder from your wife's computer to yours only if you have an account on your wife's computer that matches the one on yours.
