Yes. As I mentioned in another answer, my husband's tribe, the Wyandottes, were marched to their deaths from Ohio to Oklahoma (after being chased away from Quebec by other tribes after the Wyandottes sided with the French.)

In his family, only his grandmother survived this trail of tears. She was held by a non-family member at the end - she was a baby.

For the silly answerer who thinks there can't be genocide where there are survivors - see holocaust, armenian genocide, rwanda genocide, etc unhappily etc

A little extreme but close. Even California did not claim total animation of Indians.

Andrew Jackson was the big Manifest Destiny guy with the trail of tears Lots of dead people but they were forced to relocate in Oklahoma (not genocide)

I like the CA position on Native Americans. The State when under Mexican rule offered a $10 bounty on Indians. This is a good example of the heart condition / mindset of the founders on the State.

This is partially true, but only from a certain segment of the early U.S. population. Many were interested in converting them to Christianity , still others were intent on incorporating them into "American" society. Most Whites favored a seperate territory for them, but not genocide of them!

It is quite important to remember , By far many more Native Americans died from diseases that the Whites unintentionally brought from Europe that the Native Americans had no immunity to, like small pox!!

Obviously YES. The slaughter of the native north american indians is one of the largest genocides in human history. Really an ignored and tragic part of our history.

But hey! My relatives were living in Europe at the time so don't blame me... ; )

Listen carefully, this endless war of your both countries is just ARRONGANCE from BOTH SIDES!! One side claims that the other side has false scriptures, and the other side claims THEY have false scriptures. so they are causing a HUGE WAR, they might just be the cause of a WWIII for RELIGION.

I learnt recently that one of the ways the US government cleared the land of native Americans was to slaughter all the buffalo in the area causing massive starvation.

Certainly it required either the liquidation or removal of the indigenous native American population but it also required the defeat of competing European invaders.

Of course. And guess what, pro-illegals use that as an excuse to allow the illegal immigrants to mess up our current great nation. What losers those people are.
