You should always take ALL of your bactrim prescribed when you have such an infection. It's possible that this time, your bacteria will be resistant to bactrim because you didn't take it all last time, therefore bactrim won't work for you. It is best to have a urine sample tested for culture and sensitivity, so the doctor will know exactly what antibiotic is best to prescribe this time. Drink plenty of fluids, avoid sugary and starchy fluids, eat yogurt, drink cranberry juice or other acidic juices, and see your doctor. Often i can stave off an infection just by doubling the amount of water I drink when I feel one coming on. I often drink 2 qts of cranberry juice followed by 2 qts of water in one day. That usually takes care of it. If it doesn't, you definitely need to see the doctor. letting a UTI go can lead to septicemia which can lead to septic shock. I've seen people die, because they wouldn't seek treatment until too late.

Absolutely not!!!! Please get a new prescription. If your doctor is familiar with you he may just call in the Bactrim to your local pharmacist without even seeing him. The reason why you shouldn't use your old prescription is because all antibiotics are prescribed for a period of time, the duration varies depending of the severity of the infection. Normally you take Bactrim every six hours for 14 or 21 days. Eventually you will get better. This does not mean that you stop taking the antibiotic. You need to continue taking it till completely gone. Stopping the medication may allow your body to become tolerant to this medication and if and when you need this antibiotic again it will not work.

It's best to get a culture done as you can have a resistant bacteria to bactrim. I tried that once and ended up missing several days of work because it masked they symptoms and moved to a kidney infection.

No! You need to contact your Doctor to get a urine test sent off to the lab. Also, when you get into the office they can do a "dipstick" test to see what's going on. Once it gets to the lab, they tells us if the medicine your doctor put you on is the right one. If you take your left over medication you can't get the lab done as it will not show the right information. You should be able to make a quick visit to your doctors to get that test done. Good luck!

No, I think you should go to the doctor and get a PAP to make sure that it is a UTI. If you get them often you should try and find out why.

Check the expiration date, if its still good I'd go for it. But if things don't start getting better like last time, go see your doctor!!
