I would discuss it with your doctor. Some hernias are rather benign and never cause problems. But if the bowel gets pinched in these "pouches" in the stomach wall, it could be very serious. If you can gently push it back in and it stays, it is ok. But if it won't retract and gives pain, or if you have no bowel movement and your belly starts to swell, seek medical help immediately.

I had an umbilical hernia, which first appeared in 2000, and I had surgery to repair it in 2003. Since then I have had no problems, and it has greatly helped my self confidence as well as my ability to work out without worrying about injuring myself further. I would suggest however that for a while after surgery that you do not over strain yourself or it could re-appear because of stress to the surgical area.

If you are sure this is a hernia, you may need minor surgery to take care of this problem, but check with a doctor as soon as possible because hernias can be more serious than you think. I'm not trying to frighten you - I just want you to take care of your health as well as you can. Best wishes!

i think you should go to a doctor. some hernias, even if they go away for now, can return, so discuss it with the doctor. he/she tell you the best course of action.

Umbilical hernias rarely become strangulated, but you should see your doctor anyway. You probably should have it repaired.
