I can't tell you for sure whether the word is in the book or not, but there is a short, quickly read book entitled WORDS FROM THE MYTHS and I would suggest all read it. An Oracle was a fortune teller. There were many of them, but the Oracle at Delphi is the best known. They were all women. The book is by Isaac Asimov

Another way to discover things about words you did not know is to get a nice unabridged dictionary, you know, the thick kind. Find your word, read through the varied meanings listed, but most importantly, look at the bottom of the listing where it is shown where the word came from and what path it took to get where it is now.

There is an interesting thing about Greek Myths that few know. Virtually all God's names, People's names, and place names actually have a meaning, which, if y ou know that meaning, you can quickly discern really who the got is.

Pandora, for instance, is generally misunderstood. Most think that she releasted all evils. Well, she did, but she released all the gifts of the gods save one. Pandora means "all gifts."

Athena was a virgin, and she was not born through a woman. She popped out of the head of Zeus. The Parthenon is a temple to a Athena, the virgin. Parthenos means virgin in Greek.

Priapus is the son of Aphrodite and Dyonisious (or how ever you spell it). He was born with a problem. He always had engorged genitals, thus when you see the Cialis ads on TV and you hear the word Priapism, you know where the word came from.

Oracle is not the name of any greek god. It is a temple at Delphi dedicated to Apollo where the soothsayers made predictions.
