This can be due to low birth weight or premature birth. If you delivered your twins before 36 weeks, use their adjusted age for reaching milestones. If your twins were low birth weight they may have developemental delays, if this is the case you should speak to your Pedi about having Developemental Assesments done, they are usually done at 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and 1 year of age.
Sitting up unassisted doesnt usually happen before 6 months. My twins are 4 months and 1 week they are able to sit up with minimal support.
If you are truly concerned please see your Pedi, better to get the matter resolved sooner rather then later, or at least put your mind at ease.
Try buying a Bumbo Seat. This can aide in helping them to sit up.
This can be found at any Toys R Us or Babies R Us store, around $50
For the record, twins do not do things slower then other babies. If aa single baby is born premature or low birth weight they will have the same issues. Not all twins are born premature or low birth weight. Thats just ridiculous.

My fraternal twin girls did not start sitting up on their own until 8 months.
My twins were born early too, @ 32weeks, weighing 3lb8oz and 3lb13oz. They were in the NICU for two weeks.
So, some preemies will hit milestones at different times than full term babies would. My pediatrician told me that with preemies, it usually takes them a full year to catch up with their counterparts.
Hope this helps you.
Here is the link to BabyCenter where you can learn more about twins and their milestones. Not so sure if they talk about preemies. But, you can go to the March of Dimes website where they do talk about preemies.

Twins sometimes take longer to do certain things single birth babies do. sometimes because they are born a little premature etc. Its just different for twins. If if still bothersd u I suggest u talk to there pediatrician, im sure they will sit up on there own shortly. Just encourage them. When they lie down on there backs hold on to there little hands and help but not much them sit themselves up. Sit them up with a pillow or something sterdy behind them, that way they can get the idea of how its supposed to be done. Good Luck!

My daughter is a perfeclty healthy normal baby too. She was very tall though (97th percentile) and had a lot of troube sitting up on her own and really did not do this successfully till she was about 9 months old. When I say successfully I guess I mean that I was no longer afraid that she would tip over and hit her head anymore. Every baby is different. No worries.

this might have something to do with the fact they where early, even though they where 3 weeks early every day counts inside your womb. they say baby's should sit without support by 6-8 months, but every kid is different. if they are not sat up by 9months then talk to your health visitor or GP. baby's develop loads over night you never know they might surprise you and sit up next week, don`t worry to much.

Every child progresses on their own time scale and with multiples this is very true. Maybe they do not feel the need yet or maybe you make it easy for them to not attempt this. Try putting pillows around them on the floor and see if they help out.
Not all twins are slower though, I was up and walking at 7 months, my sister at 10 months it just depends on the baby herself.

they were probably born early right? That means that at the begining they might be a bit slower than most. my daughter was 7 week early. She is 9 months now, and a couple weeks ago i was worried about the same thing. All of a sudden, 2 weeks ago, i walk into her room and she's just sitting up in her crib like she'd done it forever, all proper and strait. lol. Just yesterday i walk in and she's standing and holding on the side of her crib! haha..... she was crying cause she couldnt figure out how to get back down.... i showed her and that was all she needed, she's gonna be standing so soon!... so dont wory.... just play lots with them.. :)

I have a friend who has twins that didnt speak until they were 4. they are now 9 and are absolutely fine, getting on great at school.
My daughter did everything pretty early - one day old and she was holding her head up and looking around the room... stuff like that.
My advice is speak to other mums - although your other child developed faster, chances are that your twins are not much different from other kids.

when children are born early they develop later than most children and your first child sat up earlier than most children. The twins should sit up in a month or two

My baby didn't sit up at all. I waited months for her to sit up and suddenly she just took off and crawled. She's been like it ever since - can't sit still for a second -life's too short she tells me.
Were your twins Geminis? Well there's the trouble then. Little butterflies won't be sitting for long.... get the stair gates ready!
