It's a noble concept, but if we do so, be prepared for the following:
1: Taxes will go through the roof. There's no such thing as a free lunch. Someone has to pay for it, and that someone is us.
2: Health care will be rationed, and there will be long waits for routine procedures.
3: We are currently the leading nation in the world in medical research, and in developing new drugs. Kiss that goodbye! When pennies are pinched (and they will be!!), the priority will be patient care. Research will go largely unfunded.
4: There will develop a two tiered medical care system.....those that can afford to pay for services, and those on the national system. The very best care providers will go where the money is. The rich will get the very best, and the rest of us will get the leavings.
5: Anything the government gets involved in becomes inefficient and corrupt.
6: What we have now is expensive and has it's shortcomings. However, it IS the best health care system on earth when one factors in the access to cutting edge technology and pharmaceuticals. If it ain't broke, don't need fixin'!!

Because it is necessary and the right thing to do. Have you heard of contagious diseases? They are out their right now, just waiting for your family to drink from the wrong cup. When you don't have medical treatment available, people do not receive preventive medicine. If a person has tuberculosis and does not get treated, that person may give it to you or a cousin of yours.
If the Government does not provide basic health care for it's citizens, then who cares for workers who rely on retirement health care when the company spent all the money that the workers had taken out of their bank accounts for 30 years. The government has to pick up the tab, or it has old people spreading disease and dying ten years before their time. Being dependent on their children for survival. Do you know how expensive and hard it is to be forced to care for your elders or chronically sick? This story is playing out right now in this Country, at your local theater, and do you know who is setting right behind you in the dark, and suddenly coughs, once, twice and your out!
Don't let some thankless youngster us his selfishness and lack of real experience in the world spread an idea like many of these Conservative ideas, because he does not have any problems having been educated by well off parents and subsequently placed into well healed positions. They don't know anything real. They won't know anything until they are the ones in trouble.

It would be really nice but you see the government has no money.
Maybe you should rephrase the question to ask if Americans want to provide healthcare to all of its citizens. You know like everyone pony up the same amount of dollars it would take. But since most socialists would not be willing to take money from their pockets it won't work.
Better yet, the socialists will love this one, make it mandatory that everyone tithe 10% to a church, anyone you want, and have the churches use that money to provide healthcare. At least without the government being involved I would be less concerned about congress stealing the money.

while not original as have answered this question several times, yes, we provide aid for other countries and we forget that we should first take care of the home front. Families can not afford health care, while medicine may be advancing the day of the physican with compassion to the poor has long since past.

Government should help or provide Health Care
to everyone BUT the Republicans...they are such
sick twisted folks, that all the health care in the
world would just be wasted on them.

Another liberal heard from. Do you mean national health care like they have in Canada? Many Canadians travel to the lower 48 to get appointments regarding health care. Their own health care program is overwhelmed, and not very efficient.
I would not like to see that in the US. I believe it would put the US economy into a tail spin. My answer is, NO!

Instead of offering a free service they offer subdivided health care were you pay a portion and they pay the rest it would be more fair esp the people that are working.

No, not unless we want to ruin our health care system.
Did you know that people with money from Canada and Europe all come here for their health care?
National Health Care has failed everywhere.
It's shyster lawyers like John Edwards that is trying to ruin our health care system.
Check out how he made his millions off of us.
