Can a Medical Doctor in the UK write a prescription for his/her self?

Not any more - we used to be able to until a few years ago. When we were allowed to the prescriptions still got spot-checked, to make sure we weren't prescibing ourselves or relatives anything dodgy.

It's quite annoying actually as if I need something really simple that I'm perfectly capable of prescibing anyone else I still have to take time off work (and cancel my own surgery) to go to my GP where I am registered to get a prescription. Still, I guess I could be Harold Shipman number 2, someone's gotta check.

No you are not allowed to self medicate they have to use a doctor just like we do. They will be seen much quicker though and no receptionist to go through.lol

Yes they can! .....and for there family although this is not necessarily ideal it is a right that doctors retain at this point in time.

I think questions would be asked by the pharmacist if there were prescribing classified drugs.

No, they have to register with a doctor just as everybody else does.
