AND I THOUGHT I WAS HAVING A BAD day

2006-10-10 03:45:38 · answer #1 · answered by john boy -1 2 · 0 1

The dad may have one or two things on his mind.

1. He may be worried that the couple will face racial prejudice in the future from people who disapprove of mixed-race marriages. It's a fair worry, depending on where in the world you live. However, he won't have to deal with it directly, his daughter will, and he should be more keen to support her than suffering from gloom about her prospects.

2. The future husband might be a shiftless bum, which would be a depressing prospect for any prospective father-in-law. But there are as many white shiftless bums as there are black ones, so there's no special reason to be excessively depressed because this particular shiftless bum is a black guy.

3. He may just hate the idea of his girl marrying a black guy. In that case, he's racist, plain and simple, and I have no sympathy with him.

In short - if the only reason he's depressed is that his daughter isn't marrying a white guy, then he's entirely wrong to feel disappointed. If his daughter is marrying a man who loves her and will treat her well, then that's as much as he is entitled to hope for.

Is Dad depressed just because the guy is black, If so he's a racist and I'd say to the couple if you love each other go for it, or it that no man will ever be good enough for his little girl. If she's happy he should be glad for her.

Dad needs to be honest about why he's depressed.

He needs to get some help for his depression and realize that this is her life to live as she wants! The couples happiness should be of the most importance!

Is she happy?
If she is that should be her fathers main concern.
She should speak with her Dad and explain how it feels to not have her father involved in one of the best moments of her life.
If he has his own prejudices he should learn to keep them to himself, and to be there for his daughter no matter weither or not he necessarily agrees with the decisions she makes.
Who we are in life comes down to the free choices we make.

He belongs to a different generation, I suppose. Anyway time will tell if he was right!!!!

Sometimes girls - especially "daddie's girls"- end up with the type of partner MOST LIKELY to irritate their dad, for some reason.

If the colour difference is his only reason for feeling disappointed, then no , he is not right. If his daughter is happy , that should be all that matters .

It is obvious that our ideas can not take account of our judgements, as is proven in the ontological manuals. (Thus, our judgements stand in need to necessity, because of the relation between philosophy and the noumena)
