She is thinking of moving to Belfast with her work but is worried about the reception she might get being English. Is she right to be worried?

The same work has a posing in Dublin (I think- it's definitely somewhere in southern Ireland). Would this be better for her?

I am asking this question on her behalf so please don't bite my head off if I have offended anyone!

Belfast is a GREAT city to live and work in, I don't live there but my family comes from Northern Ireland and I visit fairly often. Things have really changed over the last decade and she shouldn't get anything other than a good reception, the people of Ulster are really friendly, from both sides of the community.

I would take up a position in Belfast. The ceasefire has held now for twelve years and apparently the City if well and truly recovered. It is far safer than Dublin, I would suggest, as it is now far too commercial there now. Besides, it is only an hour or so's journey down - she could have weekends down there in some of the beautiful seaside towns...............

nah shell be fine. as long as she can learn to adapt to our sense of humour.

some of my best friends in school in belfast were english.

theres the added advantage of belfast being a university city, so there are so many different nationalities represented here. it might be harder for her to settle in other NI towns, but belfast shouldnt pose a problem.

just one wee pointer for you though - dont refer to belfast as being in Ireland, or as the people being Irish - they arent! Belfast is in northern ireland, and the people are nothern irish. im not criticising, but that could cause problems for her!!

hope everything goes well! :)

Most Irish people seem to be fairly welcoming of the english nowadays, or at least they were when I went there last year. I think you'd only be in trouble if you started bringing up history of relations between England and Ireland.

Belfast is in NI which is part of Uk so people there consider themselves to be British, same as you sis is.
The security situation in NI is secure and many English people jorney there every year for Work and Leisure.
She will be fine.
