Bathroom sinks should have automatic taps like in restaurants, where the water automatically comes out when you place your hands below the taps. But in most homes we have a tap you touch then you wash then you touch again! Am I being wierd or do I have a fair point here? lol

No you aren't being wierd. We are taught in nursing school how to wash our hands correctly, a skill that most people don't even think about. To do it correctly, use a paper towel to turn the faucet on and dispose of it. Wet your hands and apply soap, rub your hands together, paying special attention to your fingernails and cuticles, and other little folds in the skin, for about 20-30 seconds at least. Longer is preferred. The water should still be running. Rinse your hands under the faucet, taking care not to touch any of the surfaces of the sink or faucet. This whole process should take about 2 to 3 minutes. When you have gotten the soap off your hands and forearms, Use another paper towel to shut off the faucet and another to dry your hands. If you want to be germfree as possible, also use a paper towel to open and close your bathroom door.
There are many germs in a bathroom, but there are places that are even nastier..such as a refrigerator, and washing machine, and your cell phone receiver. How often do you disinfect it? Light switches are often touched by soiled hands, and so are toilet handles and seats.
Now that I have you totally paranoid about germs, like Howard Hughes, remember that the human body is also protected from many of these germs by our immune system. Our skin is our first line of defense, When it is broken, it can be compromised, but with good handwashing and care, it will defend you from most germs for a long time.

If it's in your home, you're already sharing the same germs with everybody in the family anyway. If your in Public, honestly people don't wash their hands so you're pretty safe. Seriously, leave the water running while you wash and dry, then use the paper towel you dried with to turn off the faucet.

Hopefully YOU are cleaning your own bathroom with disinfectant, right? A home bathroom shouldn't be even close to as germy and dirty as a public restroom.
