I did this for my aunts babyshower. I actually used an inexpensive baby bathtub (purchased at Walmart) I filled it with baby wash cloths, baby shampoo, baby body wash, diaper cream, baby powder, inexpensive brush and comb set, a package of receiving blankets.

Just put the basic necessities. Such as, a pcifier if her baby will be using one, some little bootties or socks, bottles, baby lotion and wash.U can go to target and they have the cutest baby clothes at a very good price, somtimes they have a clearance rack as well that has some great deals.U can add a little pull toy or rattle to the basket. a little package of baby wipes, blankets, onesies, baby caps. These are all ideas u dont have to put all of these things in the basket. I got my friend a nice bag and put 3 outfits from target in it. One of the outfits came with 2 nightgowns a bib and a hat. I bought a bottle set that came with 3 different size bottles, a pacifier and a bottle cleaner, it was classic poo and very cute. I added a little hand piglet rattle to her bag to top it off. Everything came up under $60.00 for everything. She loved it. Target is the first place to look if trying to go cute but save money. Good Luck and Have Fun!!=)

I agree, ready-made baskets are too expensive and half the products you won't even use!

What I'd suggest is the obvious- baby bath, lotion, powder.. Then maybe some Onesies (the most awesome every day suits ever created!), bottles, baby booties or socks, cotton balls, a grooming kit with brush, comb, and NAIL CLIPPERS!, wipes, and even a package of diapers. From there you can put in any other extras...a rattle, pacifiers, teethers, and cloth diapers for burp cloths.
Have fun with it! All these things a new mom can use.

Yes that's a great idea, put all the things in you would need for a new baby, have a look at ready made baskets to give you an idea, or look in mothercare or boots.

Also when mums have a baby, all the presents are for the baby, I think that some mums would also like a treat, as all they have been through it would be nice to be remembered.

A small package of diapers is always good, wipes, baby wash, small socks or booties~gotta keep those little tootsies warm :) Lining it with a baby towel or receiving blanket is a great idea. I always try to stay away from bottles & pacifiers because some people don't want to use pacifiers, some babies are really particular as to what bottle nipple they will take~ mine were. Think warm its getting cold outside. Maybe put a couple little things for momma in there too, some nice lotion, a candle, her fav candy, etc.
Good luck! I think its a great idea :)

I'm pretty much going to restate what everyone else has already said Baby blankets, lotion, clippers, bath wash, shampoo, travel set by johnson and johnson, socks, diapers but you should buy size 1 or 2 b/c the baby will out grow newborn size before you know it. Baby wipes, ointment, and baby booties are good ideas. Have fun with it good luck and congrates to your friend...

I just made one for my Sister-In-Law. In it, I put:

Mother's Milk Tea
Breast hot/cold Packs
Nursing pads
A kit with gas drops, saline drops, nasal asperator, etc
Onesies
Jammies
A breastfeeding reference book
A card with local breastfeeding resources for her to have on hand just in case
Lansinoh lanolin cream (for sore nipples)
headband and sock set
baby photo album
hat and bootie set
washcloth

I think I put a couple other things in there, too. Some other ideas:

slings
breast gel soothies
baby nightgowns
breastmilk storage bags
receiving blankets
snacks for mom
water bottle for mom
boppy
baby toys
baby shoes (such as Robeez)
swaddle blanket
shampoo, body wash
hooded towels

I also stay away from the bottles/pacifiers because some babies wont' take them and some mommas don't want to have them on hand (I didn't want them).

I also stay away from diapers as a gift because some mommas use cloth or do infant potty training with their babies (I do both). I actually found it annoying to get disposable diapering supplies at my baby showers since I don't use any of it.
