Can anyone tell me how you make the images for printing onto mugs? I understand the process of heat transfers but how do you make them?

mug transfers are printed on to transfer paper and an ink jet printer. THe type of paper and type of printer / ink have to match, and then you must have the right press to complete the transfer. This link has a demo of it all. http://www.bestblanks.com/transferpapers.html#. Enjoy!

The process is called sublimation.

Print image onto paper.
Stick paper onto mug with heat proof tape.
Shove mug into mug press.
Wait 3.5 mins at 200 degrees.

You need a mug press - see http://www.xpres.co.uk/heatpresses.php and it's the 3rd one down.

Also need sublimation ink printer. http://www.xpres.co.uk/sublimation.php

There is dye sublimation and also Chemology.
Dye sublimation is the cheapest and easiest but the images fade to white and can be scratched off. Chemology is more expensive and permanent.
Dye sublimation uses heat 400 degrees or so for 10 to 20 minutes.
Chemology uses kilns over 1500 degrees for 24 hours.
