I really do not understand Courure. On project runway they said it had hand sewing and people had to be liscenced in france. I thought the definition meant costume. Target is selling dresses by Issac Misrahi that are labeled Corture. I am sure that they are not hand made. What does this mean? I would tend to believe the project runway definition.

Please help me understand what Couture means in a real sense and why designers are calling their dress couture when it is obviously mass produced?

I am glad target has clothes for less. I cannot afford runway. I just want them to use definitions properly. I am glad they are making clothes for the rest of us.

couture basically means "hand sewn", not sewn by a sewing machine, that means the entire garment is hand sewn inside and out. thats why real couture cost so much, on project runway they only hinted on it, they actually sewed the garments by machine, but used some techniques, to embelish. but real couture takes lots of time and cost a lot of money, a dress may run from $10,000 to $100,000, depending on the designer and how its made and the detail. hope this helps.

couture- its basically and very detailed, hand made garment. Many "couture" labels might have alot of little details, but may still be mass produced, such as in target. But in the Project Runway case ( i <3 that show) they had to hand sew everything and you noticed how everyone put many details in their dresses.

Couture , specially high, it's not made for masses. The regular clothing is streetwear and some times ready to wear.

Many of the garments shown in the runway are for have more attention, but rarely done in mass production. It's a show about trends.
