You should see Martin Luther. Google his name.
His writings protesting the attrocities committed by the Catholic church began the Protestant movement. That is why there are now Catholic Christians and Protestant Christians.

The Spanish Inquisitions began as a way of converting non believers to Christianity. These people were not allowed to read the holy scriptures. There were no such things as bibles.
The inquisitions were torture by death. Some of those tortures included sticking a barbed rag down their throats and yanking it out, all while reading scriptures, chaining hands in one direction and feet in another and pulling the person apart, guillotines, beheadings etc...
The deaths were horrific, and all in the name of God!
The inquisitions affected people then by converting them out of fear. Spainiards. It affects people today with most Spanish speaking people being Catholic. It affected people then and now, by having the holy scriptures translated for the common person.
This is how the bible came about. The latest English translation, was the King James Version, or KJV, which was translated by King James the first, and Prince Charles and his children are direct descendants of him.
