The success of the entire advertising industry rests on their ability to make us uncomfortable with ourselves as we are. If we are comfortable with ourselves, we're not very likely to go out and buy that newest beauty solution they're pushing. If we're truly comfortable with ourselves, we won't want that new status symbol (car, home, designer label drinking glass, etc) they want to sell us. They have to make us feel dissatisfied so we'll want to change that somehow.
Honestly, I think it all comes back down to that. The advertising media has been successful in showing us how inadequate we are. We humans also generally prefer to take the easy way out (they use that tendency to sell us stuff, too, have you noticed?) so when you put these two together, plastic surgery seems to be the perfect answer: the easy way to solve all your problems.
Of course, it's not, and never will be, so you may also want to look at people who are disappointed in how little changes even with great results of the surgery itself. For example, a woman may simply be very shy (or too outgoing, or have bad social graces, or whatever) but she's unaware of this and so blames her lack of success in relationships on what she can see that she's dissatisfied with: her big nose, or small bust, or big (or flat) rear end, etc. Once the cosmetic change has been made, she will still not have better relationships because that wasn't the real problem. The real problem (she's shy, she's pushy, she has horrible table manners, what-have-you) is still there.
Oh, sheesh. Shall I step off my soapbox now? Sorry. You hit a nerve. Please feel free to email me (by clicking on the name under my grey smiley box over there) for more details, should you wish them.

People especially young women, however there are more and more men looking for the perfetc body. however, they are in search of what Hollywood perceives what is perfect. More and more young women are getting breast implants, and nose jobs, ect. We now live within a society that is simply not satisfied with being themselves. they want to look like someone else. sometimes even someone famous. they do not realize that the photos they are looking at are airbrushed and impossible to duplicate. Very sad. But very true. Good luck, God bless

Plastic surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her breast reduction, tummy tuck and facelift surgery in India by the company called Forerunners Healthcare .The Price for the surgery she paid in India was very less. She paid 30% of the cost she was quoted in America.
Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. They arrange cosmetic and plastic surgery for foreigners in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as the breast reduction, tummy tuck, facelift and other cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

I think simply put, that it is higher in price because of all of the Hollywood actors/actresses, Musicians, who can afford this,,...You know? Money is no object..........But have you seen the show that shows how things went horribly wrong?? You couldn't pay me to take a risk like that...People need to get over themselves! Some people think that their fans expect that of them(no they don't). Just be yourself with the body God gave you. Everyone is beautiful naturally in their own way...They really are...Just look around....

I think it is because our society is becoming more youth obsessed all the time. Also surgery in general is safer and cosmetic surgery is more available than ever.

Its mostly demographic. Its the older baby boomer women who think they are going to remain youthful looking forever, as their sense of self-worth is so tied up in their outward appearance.

People's levels of happiness are continuing to degrade. To fill our intellectual and emotional void we concern ourselves with things like appearence, status, or persona.
Essentially people will trade truth for lies to get temporary happiness.

Because society makes young girls feel like they have to be skinny and pretty to get a man. Oh, and they have to have big breasts too.
