There aren't many places on the high street that sell even coffee for 60p. I suppose £1 is a more fair amount. You don't define 'someone'. If it's a friend, colleague or aquaintance you just pay for their drink the next time you go for a coffee or to the bar. Why would you feel obliged to give the person a drink anyway?

It all depends what your giving a drink for.
Its normally around £20 but If it was a big favour or deal then it between £50 and £100.

Find out what their favourite alcoholic drink is and then next time your down the pub buy them one.
If you don't drink with this person then it's a weird thing to ask as they know you will not be able to buy them one.
Don't give them mony for the drink, that's a bit daft really, just leave it and then if you do see them out and about offer them a drink then.

Why am I getting the impression that they want alcohol and not coffee? If that's the case, you shouldn't care if you're being mean.

just make a donation to a reputable charity organisation and they will worry about the drinks.
try to give donations to the organisatons instead of individuals and then u will not feel guilty
