It is caused by sinus drainage. It has nothing to do with smoking. There is not really anything you can do to stop it. It is related to allergy season. But the trick to getting rid of the stuff is to drink a can of Coca Cola when you first get up. The acid in the Coke will cut through the phlegm and allow you to cough it up. Really it works!!

Sounds stress related. You live in a flat with 3 kids so nowhere quiet to go and everybody on top of one another. Try to get someone to watch the kids for a few hours a week. Also when was the last time you had a new pillow or mattress bad posture can cause this. And as others have rightly said drink water before going to bed and sleep with a window open and the heating of. Hope this helps

It sounds like you have an allergy because the phlegm is clear rather than yellow or green which would denote a possible infection. You may need to check with an allergist to get find out exactly what is causing your problem...good luck hon!

I get this when i put the central heating on due to the dry heat. If you've got radiators in your house, try putting a bowl of water in each room to keep the moisture in. Also put a blob of Vikk's vapour rub in your nostrils too before you go to sleep. Dairy products also encourage phlegm, so don't have a cup of tea before you go to sleep!

It could be second hand smoke, if you are around it like in a bar or casino or if someone living in your home smokes? Or it could just be allergies

Allergies, most likely. You have post-nasal drip that runs down into your throat and lungs while you are lying down.

Get some allergy medication and it should clear up.
