It's an element, Mg. There is no equation I am aware of.

You can not combine anything to create manesium...but you can get two elements to react and you subtract the bigger one from the smaller one and the end result is the atomic number of the element.

As I recall, it's Mg2. It exist as a binary to fill up the electron valence.
