Im pregnant. When you go in for your 1st cervical exam, do they give you a pap test? Ive only had one test done (im 18) and it was last year, and when they used that brush and q tip thing it hurt like hell. it felt like they put that brush thing INSIDE the cervix. Do they??? AND...I thought that your uterus is right through the cervix. If my doctor is putting that brush thing through my cervix, can it hurt the baby??? I F N HATE PAP TESTS!!! INPUT PLEASE!

Fost, congrats on the baby!! Exciting news, yes? So I have had many pap tests done, and no...they swab the cervix from the outside without inserting it. And seriously...if you don't want it done while pregnant, you can refuse. I had one in February, and when I had my first visit last month, other than wanting to do the g/c cultures, there was no pap. And this office doesn't do one while pregnant, meaning, when my yearly time arrives this coming Feb, they will not do one, unlike my prior docs. These are important, but if you don't want it, you have every right to refuse. Maybe try taking some Tylenol or Ibuprofin before you go? Ask them to be extra gentle and quick. My one doc was so fast I never felt a thing, and have never had one done so quickly! (He was a whck job though...LOL!!) Having this test should not cause any harm to the baby, And hey..if you LIKED pap tests, we'd think you were a little weird!! ROFL!!! :-)
Enjoy your pregnancy!!

Your first appointment they will do a pap test....i know it is uncomfortable but it must be done...NO they do not "shove that brush thing up inside your cervix". your cervix is shaped kind of like one of those fat cake donuts..the kind that really don't have a big hole in the middle....what you are feeling is the doctor collecting a few cells from the hole part for testing to make sure that you don't have any unwanted cervical changes or STDs...your doctor won't do anything to hurt you sweetie...it should only be mildly uncomfortable...not hurt like hell...if the pain is excruciating, something could be wrong and make sure and let your doctor know that it hurts that bad...and no it cannot hurt the baby....there is a large mucous plug that is forming in the cervical opening to protect the baby....check out some childbirth classes so that you can get some more info as to what will be happening to your body these next few months as there will be ALOT of changes and aches and pains that are perfectly normal with pregnancy....

No they do not put it into the cervix, they scrap it from the Virginia, close to the cervix. So no it wont hurt the baby. I am in my mid 30 and have 5 kids, I also lost 2, so I have had my share of those test. And congrats

A pap does not harm the being pregnant in any way. (Many docs will do a pap at your first prenatal examine-up.) The well-being care provider only takes a pattern of cells from the exterior of the cervix -- the instruments do not definitely enter the uterus.

PAP TESTS EVERY YEAR PLUS TEST FOR H.P.V.
NO IT CANNOT HURT YOUR BABY..THEY TAKE A SMALL PIECE OF TISSUE FROM THE CERVIX AND IT HURTS FOR A MINUTE. DON'T BE SILLY, IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE.
THEY GO NOWHERE NEAR THE UTERUS -CANNOT HURT THE BABY ANYMORE THAN HAVING SEX CAN. BABY TOTALLY PROTECTED.
