Absolutely no. Our children are struggling to master basic core curricula skills such as reading, comprehension, english and math. Part of the problem is we have tried to add so much "social engineering" we forgot to educate.
Private schools are growing far faster than any one would have dreamed just 10 years ago. Add to that the tremendous increase in the number of children being home schooled and you have a significant shift in educational trends. This is because parents are generally frustrated by a school system that spends too much time on touchy feel good stuff and just plain forgets that the main purpose of education is to educate.

I'm 15 and I beleive ABSOLUTELY NOT! They would either be incorrecty taught, or students would not pay attention and pretend to know what they are doing in an emergency situation and end up hurting someone even more. I do thinik that school children should be taught how to contact emergency services such as 911 and be prepared to answer questions that the operator would ask.

There's only so much children can learn and be expected to. I'm not opposed in principle, but I'm concerned about such a burden. Some first aid I would support, but I'm not sure if preparing for the contingency of interacting with the deaf is a good idea. What age do you think children should learn such things?
If at later age, I would agree, though languages are said to be easier to learn early.
Interaction with the deaf is, I would assume, rare.

Maybe some first aid skills, but in my opinion primary grades should mainly focus on the reading, writing and math. Just a little in the science, social studies, art, p.e., health. Secondary education should go more into the latter subjects.

Neither skill would hurt anyone. I think first aid would be a great topic to cover in physical education. I don't think sign language should be mandated, though. It would require resources that a lot of schools don't have.

That's a couple of great ideas. I never thought of that, but those would be very useful, helpful, and positive things for all members of a society to know. Much more important and useful than the major export of Algeria or the capital of Vermont etc.
