My favorite were the triple features, and trying to sneak in by hiding inside the trunk :)

Miss those theatres.

We still have two or three here in Maine!! I try to go a few times each summer. I remember the intermission film where the food dances and the hot dog "jumps" into the bun, hillarious. There is a playground area and people play frisbee or football. They took out the speakers two years ago, so you listen on your radio, but no mosquitos that way!!

Yes, I do remember the drive ins. We went as kids w/our parents and would go to the playground before the film was on. You would either bring popcorn and soda or kool-aid with or if your parents had a few dollars you could go up and get something great. Oh, we were allowed to wear our pajamas too. When we were much older we would go with our friends who drove. We would hide people in the trunk or back of the van covered with blankets. I remember it would cost about $300 a car load back then. They had two movies and two cartoons along with the news reels. Oh, yes the days when you could play at the drive in and know you were safe. Remember the really bad speakers that people were always driving off without putting them back? Thanks for that memory.

I missed that era...

The way it is now, everything is technological. There's cell phones, where anyone can call me and ask me to meet them anywhere. If I get lost, I don't have to stop at a gas station to ask for directions, I can just call someone for help. I don't go out to rent a movie, I buy it on demand. I can find anything on the internet, I don't even remember how to use the Dooey Decimal system.

I missed drive in movies & pay phones.

Wonder what it was like to go home and check your messages on an answering machine- not having instant access to someone or anything else I want.

My Mama used to bring me and a bunch of my girls friends to the drive-in before we were old enough to date. We would all go into the concession stand and flirt with all the guys working there.
Then when I started dating, me and my date would do a little petting in the front seat. I really liked it better when we double dated, because then we had to be good lol
My husband and I used to bring our kids, but I was too busy with the little ones to even watch the movie.
I have some really good memories of drive-ins from start to finish
Thanks for reminding me!

I was born in the Seventies when they were already fading from the public landscape, but I did go to a few and remember them well.

We lived in the South at that time, and I remember being hot as hell sitting in the car while watching a movie, and it was so strange when you had to walk two miles it seemed to go to the bathroom, and they were usually dimly lit in a yellow glow and there was trash everywhere as they were near the concession area.

The last film I ever saw at a drive-in was in 1986 and it was a STAR TREK film, The Voyage Home I recall, and the screen was so dark I rmemeber being mad at how dim it was!

We still have drive-ins here in Arkansas. The ones from when I was a kid are gone, but I do remember that old rusty playground out front.

I have fond memories of Drive-In movies. But I promise you I
don't remember playgrounds nor intermissions.
To be honest with you, I didn't go for the Movies in the 1st place.
lol.

Used to love them. When I was a kid, my folks took us in our jammies and pillows and blankies. We always brought our own sammies and snacks too. The kids would fall asleep in the back car and the parents stayed up in the front seat. It was a blast.

As a teen we would hide in the trunk of the car and sneak in as many as possible. On warm summer nights you could lay or sit on the hood of the car on blankets leaning up against the windshield. It was a big social night, you met your friends, had fun and ate junk food.

Weren't the tinny speakers just awful and great? lol

Loved drive-ins.

Listening to audio through the crappy little squawk box, and being able to go to the movies in your jammies !!

By the time I was old enough for making out, all the drive in's in my area had gone out of business :(
