There is a lot of waste in local government. My youngest son has taken a position with a local authority, overseeing renovation of Council House stock. He moved from the private sector, and says the average council employee wouldn"t last 5 minutes in the "real" world. [ we are talking about office staff] I do however put a lot of blame on the government. They tell us they are investing more money on Education, Police, Fire Service etc etc then they expect the local authorities to fund the spending whilst holding down the amount of "grant" to the authorities, who have no alternative but to increase Council Tax or cut spending. Next time the gov. says they are to spend more money on this or that, ask them WHO IS REALLY PAYING FOR IT.

The councils have to pay into the pension plans of the local government schemes. These payments, like all pension plans have been robbed by Brown and his stealth tax on dividends.
The councils are collecting more money from us each year and more and more is going into the pension schemes and they also have to pay those people who have already retired. Guess what, the problem gets worse each year and our council payments are going into a bigger and bigger pit.
They also appear hamstrung when it comes to paying for general council services which are now run by foreign firms who have them by the short and curlies.
It doesnt matter who controls the council as none have the balls to stop the rot.

I live in a cul-de-sac, and it is littered with everything from chip papers to beer cans. Everytime I phone I am told it will be done, it never is. I have e mailed the local councillors, nothing. I feel like stopping my c.tax and so does everyone else, but we put up with it, being British.

Because they have created so many mickey mouse jobs paying ridiculous wages and forming teams to do non-existant jobs they have run out of money.

And don't forget councillers have awarded themselves huge rises for doing so little, it's the government to blame.

Most of your council tax is going in providing pensions for council workers/police etc - not services for them that pays it!

Because they want to save all the tax we pay them for there council meetings, Afternoon tea's, Sports cars, Holidays in Fiji.
In one word there all corrupt. and there's nothing we can do to stop it from happening.
Heck thank your lucky stars that we dont live in north Korea!
