What precisely happened to the English language? Where once grammatical form and proper construction stood, now a slang 'use written language any way you prefer' seems to dominate most written communication.

Is it just me, or are there other fine people that are frustrated by the lack of proper written language/overuse of slang?

You are NOT alone. We have now created the lazy generation with the Internet and Internet shorthand. Just watch. Soon someone will produce a dictionary of Internet terms. Besides the written word, most now rely on calculators and couldn't do a simple math problem if their life depended on it. Now we hear, "Why learn the multiplication tables when we have a calculator to do the work for us?" and, "Why bother to learn to spell when we have PC's with spell checks?" What will go next??

Chow!!

Completely. It makes the whole internet look like it is run by junior high girls named Ahymee.

No one needs perfect diction, but unless you are saving a character or two in a text message, you don't need to be typing 'u' 'ur' 'rly' and the like.

do not fret my learned friend it is in the human nature to cut corners and forge ahead and that is all the young people of today are doing. it was once written STRIVE TO BE AND YOU WILL BECOME . let the young do there magic and magic will enhance us all. do not be afraid of change or change will be afraid of you. put in simpler terms do not be left behind.
