I am running SP2 on windows xp home i have windows media player 11 is that the problem do i did to go back to 10 again or what?
there is no icon showing so how do i get it back again it

It could be media player 11 - knowing what Microsoft is like - check to see if any USB ports are working. if they are go back to media player 10. But it could be the driver for all the USB ports. You right click on my computer - properties - hardware - drivers and then click the + sign next to usb and scan for hardware changes - if necesary un-install the lot and re-install. They install automatically when you restart the computer.

try checking the recycle bin if you accidently deleted it when you upgraded it and then if its in ther just restore it
