You will have to take his word for it,however you would quickly notice if there is simply air in the gap as it will condense between the panes of glass.I know this as one of my double glazed units has 'blown' the gas has escaped and now i've got condensation.

Argon can increase the efficiency of reducing heat loss in double glazed windows by up to about 18% when used to replace the air that would otherwise be there.
Numerous window manufacturing companies are now using it.
If the company has a web site, check to see if they state it there. If yes and the company is accredited with ISO 9000 you can be fairly sure the rep is telling the truth.
There are ways of checking. Do not bother. It will cost much money.
If you already have the windows fitted, just out of interest, edit your question to let us know how long the rep stayed to get you to sign the contract.

Your windows should have a sticker on it when installed stating if argon is introduced between the panes or a simular inert gas. No it`s not just air. Air contains water, water makes condensation on the inside of the glass. Window distributors have to adhere to certain national codes to manufacture their product. So unless you`re buying windows from someone building a product in their backyard, you can probably the salesmans word for it

Bull*hit. Its a sales ploy. Why argon? Because its an inert gas. So what. They are filled with air. The reason double glazing works is the air gap in the middle reduces the differential in change in temperature from out side to in hence more efficient.

Yup,you will just have to take his word for it! Look him in the eye when you ask him...If he looks to the left,it means he's more than likely lying.Body language and all that! Or if he hasn't polished his shoes..show him the door!

Drill a little hole in the glass, let some of the gas out and have it checked by trading standards. don't forget to cover hole with chewing gum. if ok put gas back...easy
