I read on that women don't always have any symptoms for gestational diabeties. I've been more thristy than before (I always tried to drink the 8 glasses of water per day before pregnancy, but never seemed to) and that is my only symptom. My nausea went away a few weeks ago, I'm 16 wks pregnant and I've been slightly more hungry, but I thought that was normal during pregnancy. One of my friends noticed that I'm been drinking more water and told me I may have gestational diabeties...I still only drink about 6 - 8 glass of water (8 oz) per day. Is this likely or just a slight possiblity?

I've gone to the Dr. a few times and had my urine tested for all kinds of things...I think they test your blood sugar then. Also, I'm going to the Dr. on Thursday, so I'll talk to them about this, but I'm curious to see what everyone thinks.

I had my blood tested a while back for the hGC levels. I think they tested my blood for a bunch of things at my last appointment (they took 4 viles). No one has contacted me to tell me that the tests results were abnormal (it's been 3 1/2 weeks)...

Make sure your blood sugar is tested at every visit. I believe that's standard for all OB/GYN's these days. I had no symptoms, so routine urine screening was how mine was discovered.

There could be lots of reasons why you're more thirsty and you're right. Early gestational diabetes usually has no symptoms and it's a disease which is not usually diagnosed til later in preganancy (24 ish weeks). Also- extreme thirst is a later symptom of diabetes, not generally an early symptom. I would definitely have a blood test to look at your glucose levels (even if your doctor brushes your concern aside-it's a valid concern and it's better to be safe), but I would think it's unlikely that your increase in thirst at 16 weeks indicates gestational diabetes.

when you first went to the doctor and they took blood they checked your glucose level..also every time you go to the doc you have to pee in a cup the lab techs check for protein or glucose in your urine which could be a sign of GD. IF you have any worries then ask your OB about taking your blood sugar ever visit. or he/she might suggest that you buy a cheep glucose monitor

It sounds as if you might have it. Other symptoms could be dizziness, disorientation, a flushing feeling. Be sure to talk to your doctor about it.
