Does anyone know of a good book, in English, dealing with the Sengoku Period of Japan or one on Nobunaga Oda that isn't terribly expensive? I need the book to at least cover 1500-1582/1583.

Stephen Turnbull is a great author on many books related to the samurai and the Sengoku period.

also George Sansom three volume history on japan particularly the second volume is very informative.

For historical fiction I recommend Taiko by Eiji Yoshikawa. This details the life of Hideyoshi, a follower of Oda Nobunaga.

The Taiheiki: A Chronicle of Medieval Japan by Helen McCullough (Translator)

Sekigahara 1600: The Final Struggle For Power (Campaign) by Anthony Bryant

With the costraint of the price these may be useful and easy to find. I bought them on Amazon.

If you do not need "footnotes" there is plenty of material on the Net of good and not-so-good quality.

This is a website from the author of the second book...
