you need some obsidian (easiest) or fire pressurized chert (harder and more time consuming) then you need a good selection of cobble stone, you take your chunk of obsidean and strike it with a cobble, make sure you have a piece of leather on you lap, the obsidean is sharper than glass. once you break of a section that looks usable then you can rough shape it (in your hand with leather protection) with smaller cobble by striking it on the edges. Once you get your rough shape you can take some deer antler (or cut a section of broom handle and drill out the middle and stick in some heavy guage copper wire) with this you apply pressure to the edges and knapp the shape you want getting the edges very sharp and deadly, after you have knapped your flint... then you have to sweep up all the debitage (scraps) :)
cheers

It turns out that the term commonly used is "flintknapping" so if you search on that term, you might find some useful links. But here are some links and a book:

I heard that they get the steel or iron and get chemicals that can burn off metal and squirt high compression jets at the arrowhead and carve it that way automatically and quickly.

Use 2 rocks and chip them away I guess. Just like the caveman did over 2000 years ago.
