I just read on Yahoo that the girl that was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Whale Rider is pregent. She is only 16 and her boyfriend is 19. I also find it funny that in her next movie "The Nativity Story" she is playing Mary.

Yeah I know! I was very surprised to hear she's pregnant. She's young, but maybe she just really wants this baby. I don't know...just wish her luck! :)

Whale Rider star Keisha Castle-Hughes, 16, and her boyfriend, Bradley Hull, 19, are expecting their first child this spring, People magazine reports. The couple have been dating for three years.
The actress first made waves playing the fiery Paikea in 2002's Whale Rider -- a role for which she received a Best Actress Oscar nomination. At 13, she was the youngest Best Actress nominee in history.
''I thought I was still dreaming,'' she said about the honor at the time.
Since Whale Rider, Castle-Hughes has taken few roles, though she did play the Queen of Naboo in 2005's Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith and will appear as Mary in the upcoming movie The Nativity Story costarring Shohreh Aghdashloo.
The Australian-born actress grew up and still lives in New Zealand and -- like her character in Whale Rider -- is part Maori.

What great irony! She can still pull it off because there are many actors/actresses that played religious figures and lived their life far from who they portrayed. Jesus forgave the woman at the well for her transgressions and I hope people will do the same for her. I just don't like how the media is portraying the situation as no big thing and like this is normal. She is just a baby herself and I wished that she was at least married to her child's father though.

Unfortunately, it not uncommon for kids to be having sex and babies. Kids growing up on television generally have to grow up faster and think they are older because of their fame. So they tend to act that way.
What's sad is that everything she does and every mistake she does is going to be televised since she's an actress. Nothing is private anymore.
I just hope that she has the proper encouragement and people to help her through this. Babies are a blessing. Even when unexpected or bad timing.

i read that too!! that is so sad!! no one should start a family that young!! i know so many people that did, and i love them and they are great people...but geez!! it's so much work!!! i was 23 when i got pregnant and 24 when i had my daughter...and i'm a single parent, i know how hard it can be!!

I did hear about it. That's just wrong. Why put that in the news? Next thing you know, youngsters think that it's okay to be irresponsible.
