I had this problem when I rented a house before, nothing really got rid of it , so I painted the wall it was on, the owner never noticed , so I got my deposit back, best of luck, I'll check the rest of the answers so I learn something.... hopeflly.

You could try sugar soap and a mild abrasive like a plastic scrubber. You may need to feather the action though to prevent a clearly seen clean area
