I have no idea. I had one that did that too. I'd put my favorite ornaments up high and some cheap glass balls at the bottom. My very first Christmas tree had more blue glass balls on it, because they were my favorite. My cat loved them too. By the end of the Christmas season the only ones I had left were the ones up top. I don't know why he only chose the blue ones....

Honestly, you can't. We just made sure there were unbreakable ornaments (you can get some very pretty ones now that look like glass) anywhere the animals could reach, and we secured the tree with a tether to a hook in the ceiling, too, so the cats couldn't tip the Christmas tree over when they raced up and down the trunk. We usually had a cut Christmas tree, so they loved the tree trunk. It was usually tall, too, so it had a substantial trunk and it wasn't far from the top of the tree to the ceiling. That's how we got the idea to tether it. If you do, use a dark-colored sturdy string or light rope. The start or the angel should draw the eye away from it so it doesn't show too much.

Put the tree up high... Like on a stand that the cat can't get to. Or put a loud dancing decoration, Like a dancing Santa that is on a motion sensor. That will scare the cat away from the tree... Other wise get plastic bulbs, so that they don't break when the cat knocks them off the tree...
It's a sacrifice, glass ordainment's or cat??? I choose cat!

Maybe put a little barrier to the tree that the cat can't climb up. Also you can give the cat something to focus it's attention like colorful little things that are unbreakable from the tree itself. If your cat is still persistent and begins to destroy your Christmas tree then by golly, tie the cat's arms and hang him on the tree. Be sure the tree is steady or you will end up with a wriggling cat and a destroyed Christmas tree, haha.. Goodluck!

you can't. the cat will outwit you at every turn.

about the only thing you CAN do, and I highly recommend this--is DON'T put icicles on your tree!

the cat will eat the icicles and then when they poop it will come out like a string of beads. the cat will become frightened by this one turd that won't let go and begin running. as the cat runs the turd will whack the cat on the back legs and this will drive the cat into a frenzy trying to get away from the turd that is somehow still attached to its butt. it is not a pretty sight as the cat will climb curtains, knock over lamps, etc to get away from this turd that is hanging from its butt by an icicle that its eaten off the tree.

the cat will never make the connection between eating icicles and turds that won't go away----so YOU have to make that connection for them.

DON'T use icicles on your tree.

if you go the water gun route--it gets to the point where all you have to do is make the "pst pst" noise by sucking air through your teeth and the cat will think you've got the water gun and run away.

You can stop a cat from playing with the Christmas decorations by buying the cat a cat toy with cat nip in it but make sure the cat toy moves and makes noise. Otherwise it might keep playing with the decorations.

Give the cat an alternative play thing, first off.
Then get a bottle of water set to "power-stream" (;) and squirt the cat every time they TOUCH the tree. If they just go near it, don't spray them. They have to paw it or something to get sprayed.

They'll select the dry activity over the wet one.

Cats do not like the smell of pine I was told. I put some pine sented candles around the tree (UNLITE). Do not light them just let the scent of the candle work on its own. I would suggest Yankee Candle. They have a plug oil scented version of the candle too. I am a pine nut anyways around Christmas!! Good Luck!

You may have to consider either a table tree or not putting breakable decorations on the lower part of the tree.
