Bought a 2 year old 1.7 ctdi Astra Club last Friday and today it just won't start. Ignition light comes on but will not turnover. It seems to be an electrical fault, or the immobilizer, and will contact the selling garage tomorrow Monday, but has anyone had a similar problem?

I've got a slightly older Astra, and I've been having a problem that sounds very like yours, except mine has recently started cutting out when I'm driving as well. It's been to the garage several times now for various tests. At first they figured it was the immobiliser, so I had that re-programmed. Then I had the key re-programmed. Last time it broke down the AA guy said that his guess would be the distributor. My local Vauxhall dealer agrees, and now that's being replaced. Hopefully that will fix the problem, 'cos it's costing me a fortune. At this rate it'd be cheaper and easier if I just bought a new car.

You need to lock / unlock your car door using the key not the fob , if it still does`nt work then place the key in the ignition turn it so the ignition is on , then simultaneously push the lock & unlock button on the key fob ( the key must remain in the ignition with the light`s on ) after about 10 seconds the door`s will lock and unlock , you have now reprogrammed your key ! if it still won`t start then you may have lost the code chip from the key itself and this is a dealer`s job . this is a known problem on vauxhall car`s .

its not the immobiliser as this only cuts the power to the fuel cut off solenoid on the fuel pump on this model and not the power to the starter - so it should turn over but not start - it sounds like either a flat battery - a knackered ignition switch and/or starter. the ignition barrel and key get very stiff to turn and can stick with the starter engaged burning both of them out.

the 04 model was fittec with a Bosch EEC which was insufficently mapped with the Yazaki alternator. It turn out the the cpu reading the flutuating power line send a default signal to the multi satge pick up module. This leads to the first stage induction timing being out and the residule phases not being alined. Your garage will most likely want to sell you a reliable Golf instead.

immoboliser has not turned off from fob unlock the car with the key then it should start take to the dealer to solve key fob problem

sounds like immobiliser when you unlock your car ..keep the key turnt for ten seconds and see what happens.....also try the same when you lock car....on drivers door only..good luck.......obviously use key..not button

try both keys?if the engine management light is flashing the key is not reconised
