If you mean Jack Straw and his less than tactful comment, well, I think I see where he is coming from but he wasn't very diplomatic in the way he put his point of view across. I do agree with him to a point; seeing someone's face is important for communication; but I also feel that politicians telling us how to dress is not really what should be happening in a free society. It's a difficult one, and probably has no easy answer.

Hi >
I'm not too sure what you mean about a "local" debate.
I used to live & work in the Mid-East, and was at one time looking around a video rental emporium with three nice ladies next to me in full Islamic dress.
I decided on a James Bond vid, so they all giggled, and said to me, in Arabic, I will get one too.
Brilliant. Communication at its' best level, and why not ?
Bob.

they should by all means remove the veil if the straw man will start telling the truth ( weapons of mass distraction) and not go to war on pretence

Off with the veils! If you want to wear them, go home. This is the UK, we have different customs, and hiding our faces isn't one of them (naturally, yobs don't count as they're up to no good anyway -- note that I said yobs, not hoodies. Which I can't be bothered to get into.)

I think it offers hope for the future of the UK. I hope that it will pave the way for many other legitimate questions to be asked and for stupid political correctness to be put to one side.
