Before I was pregnant 5 weeks ago, I took Clonapan at bedtime for my insomnia, and now that I'm pregnant, I don't take it anymore. Of course, now I can't get to sleep, and I was wondering if there are any herbs or safe OTC medicines I can take. Please help!!

You could try camomile tea, its herbal and supposed to be relaxing or a warm milky drink might do it.

When I had the flu my Dr. told me it was safe to take Benadryl which will also help you sleep. I don't think there has been a lot of studies done on it so I would ask your Dr. and see what s/he recommends. The safest thing to do would be to suck it up and not take anything at all. I suffer from insomnia also and used to take ambien before being pregnant but I would NEVER take it during pregnancy. Just call your physician and go by her recommendation.

I would not take any OTC sleep aids. Talk to your doctor and get an Rx that is safe. My doctor put me on Ambien and I did very well on it. My son was born healthy and no problems whatsoever!

Hmmm...nice to know I'm not in this boat alone!! I have had insomnia for over a year, taking NOTHING to help me sleep. So I talked to my doctor's office a while back and they told me that Tylenol PM is totally safe to take!! Please call your doc and ask them first, but I was told it is fine to take.....
I would assume you woudln't want to take it every night for your entire pregnancy, but for a while it can help!! Helps me, and doesn't leave me groggy!
Check with your doc first though, please! :-)

Your OBGYN is the best one to ask advice from...And I'm sure he will tell you no...........But you never know.......
Just make sure you get up at the same time everyday, keep busy an b/ 4 bed, drink some decaffeinated hot tea.....good luck.
