i put a nail though a gas pipe today and pluged it with chewing gum will this be ok till the moring

If you want to live till the morning, I would turn your gas off at the meter box and ring your Gas suppliers Emergency line.

Switch off the gas supply at the mains now.
You could be fine, but your house could fill up with gas and KABOOM.
It might be fine when you go to bed, but the chewing gum could dry and shrink. Or dry and lose its stick.
Dude, turn your gas mains off now. Get someone asap. You can wait till the morning when they are around, but you will have no gas till then.

If not, you must call the gas people NOW!!
One of our neighbours' houses blew up earlier this year due to a gas leak. When they found him on the road outside, his coat was melded to his body.
His house is still being rebuilt.
Also, if the S H one T hits the fan, and it is found out that you knew you had nailed through the pipe and not done anything about it, your insurance could be invalid and you could be sued etc., by your neighbours.
Take (lots of) care, and act NOW!

The risk here is the chewing gum coming out over night, filling the house with gas and something igniting it!!There are many not so obvious sources that can ignite it, I WOULD turn the gas OFF.

Are you kidding me?? Chewing gum over your life?? I would call the 1-800 number and get some one there to fix that gas leak right away!!

To save paying for emergency Sunday call out fees, turn the gas off. There will be a switch at your gas meter, but don't leave it on all night, that would be stupid and dangerous.

YES THE CHEWING GUM SHOULD STAY QUITE MOIST TILL MORNING but check for hairs before putting it back in your mouth!!

if it is a natural gas pipe,, i would think not!!.. but you could put some j.b. weld over it and then put a piece of inner tube over that clamp it with a hose clamp,, that should hold.. good luck
