You want something different try any Asian horror movies, they are amazing, my favs:

A Tale of Two Sisters: Two sisters after spending some time in a mental institution return home, but nothing is at it seems.

The Audition: If Rob Zombie can say that movie is worth it, just me it is- very hard to find before but it is all over the place. Really good one, it pretty much say don't dog us women.

Ju-On (The Original The Grudge) Trust me this one is so much better...

The Eye: This blind girl gets a cornea transplant and begind to see weird things.

Phone:This publisher write this controversial article about sex scandals, then she begin to receive these phone calls

Koma:A sick game between two women and organ stealing

For pure scariness:

Jeepers Creepers
The Ring (first US version)
Saw (original)
The Exorcist(original)
Silent Hill
The Omen 2006 version
Rosemary's Baby
Carrie
Children of the Corn
Halloween (the original with Jamie Lee Curtis)

You will find these do not have alot of goriness, but more psychological suspense and terror, which is what Scary movies are about. Slasher movies are not scary, and are usually B movies, so I am not scared by those.

It depends on what scares you.
Dolls with attitudes weilding knives, or guys in goalie masks with chainsaws at summer camp are so bloody
UNSCARY now.Thankfully,the "Scary Movie "series
took the piss out of most of the trite predictable
devices so overused in most movies in the horror genre.

In the horror/macabre genre there are many excellent

"grey Areas" in which one can explore.

For instance,I think that "The little girl who lived down the lane" with Jodie Foster is positively CREEPY but
is it the same creepy feeling that I get when I watch
"The Ring"?,Not at all.

Here are a few that scare me still, they are a little obscure, but should be easy to find.

"Bad bad Ronald-Creepy and voyeuristic. Not especially gory, just unsettling.
"Trilogy of Terror"-The one with Karen Black and the
Zuni fetish doll.It scared a small amount of pee
out of me when first I saw it.

Suspension of disbelief is important in scary movies.

It's creepier when you actually can imagine it

happening to you I feel.

If you seriously want to scare yourself and not just gross yourself out, watch Korean/Chinese scary movies. They have ghost stories that are freaking crazy scary!

For scary ones you can get in North America/Europe:

1. The Changling
2. The Shining
