pretty much the same? I am not a native English speaker. I would love to understand the difference as well. THanks a lot.

An advertisement can be printed in a newspaper, magazine, on a poster or a billboard or something like that, or put on TV or on the radio. A commercial is an advertisement that is on the radio or TV.

And to add to the previous two answers, a commercial is an advertisment!! But an advertisment isn't always a commercial.

Advertisements are the type of things you see on billboards and magazines. Commercials are seen on the television.

Although they are very similar as nouns ( advertising ) - commercial can also be an adjective that means in business for profit ( as opposed to a charity )

A commercial is broadcast, i.e., on TV, radio, etc. An advertisement is promoting a product in print. (This is only my opinion -- check dictionary definitions)!

Commercial is usually aural - radio/tv
Advertisement is usually print - newspaper/magasine/web

I consider the difference being: commericals are oral ads and advertisments are written/printed ads!@
