Emmett Till was the 14 y/o Black child who was murdered in Mississippi I believe in the 1960's because he told a White woman she was pretty.

They came to his family's home and took him at gunpoint. He was beaten, tortured, and his body was thrown in a pond.

His murder sparked the Civil Rights movement. His murder is the reason Rosa Parks wouldn't give up her seat to a White man on a bus in Alabama. His death is the reason women, and minorities have Civil Rights today!

Thank you for asking.

Emmett Till, (July 25, 1941-August 28, 1955 )was a innocent young black man who was from Chicago Illinois visiting with family in the summer of 1955 in the Mississippi delta, and was murdered. His murder was one of the things that pushed forth the civil rights movement. His mother had a open casket at his funeral despite the fact that his body had been horribly brutalized so everyone could see the effects of racism. He allegedly flirted with the wife of the owner of a store that he had went to with some other young men to purchase some candy, the husband became so outraged that that he and some other men went to the uncles house where emmitt was staying and kidnapped and murdered him. The other boys that were with him said what he had done was actually whistled at the women just having some fun as children do, and because of this he lost his life. Many within the community and around the country were so outraged at this that this began what was known as the Civil Rights Movement. Look in to it and research it. You will find a vast of amount of information. It is worth looking into and seeing the brutality of our nation in the past and give you a look at how ugly and hateful racism is. I hope this is helpful to you. Good luck and God Bless.

He was a young black man that was killed because he talked to a white woman and his uncle spoke up about the crime and the two men that killed him had gone to jail. I believe he was one of the first victims of the civil rights movement in this present century in the south.

A ***** boy who was killed for whistling at a white woman.

But I bet for your class you don't need to know the names of any one of the thousands of whites that have died due to black on white violence since the 1960s.

Violent crime was much lower in the 1950s on a per capita basis, that at least is a fact.
