I did a mistake of placing a Intel Pentium D on a motherboard that only supports Pentium 4 and Pentium Celeron D. So the computer doesn't do anything when i power it up. Is it possible that i burned my CPU for doing that.. Or just buying a compatible motherboard for Pentium D resolve my problems, I just don't want to buy one and know that I burned the CPU and have to buy another CPU

Without the professional tool, the only thing you can do is check if there is any obvious burn damage on either the CPU or the motherboard.

You can't check the motherboard without cpu, cpu fan, ram, and video card. Leave any of these out and you can't boot (if any are bad, you can't boot - kind of a circle, huh). You will need either a test machine with a known to be good motherboard to test the components, or some known to be good components to test the motherboard.

CPUs are "zero insertion" which means they should just drop into the socket with NO force at all. If you had to put ANY pressure on the CPU at all you have ruined the CPU by bending a bunch of the little tiny gold pins on the back of the CPU. When you remove the CPU, take a magnifying glass and examine those pins carefully. If even slightly bent they are no good. If you try to straighten them they will break off. Do you have a P4 CPU to try in the mobo? That would be a way to see if the mobo is shot.

Well, the CPU should not have even fit in the socket, so I doubt you have burned your CPU, but I can't be sure. The best thing to do is to take it to a computer shop and ask them to test it for you. When I say computer shop, I mean a private one not the Geek Squad or someone like that.
