I love the classics like "7 Brides for 7 Brothers"
Not to mention "Sound of Music" and "The King and I" etc...

But of course there were more recent ones like "Grease" and "Swing Kids" Now they have "High School Musical" and "Chicago" Some were better than others.

What are your favorites and which do you prefer? The older or newer and why?

Well that a Tough one as far old ones go, I'm Favorable to Fred & Ginger films of the late 30's early 40's but I would have to say it? SING IN THE RAIN as far as New ones go, Without a Doubt. Andrew Lloyd Webber's THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum: old, but was revived a while back

Rent: mid ninties

The Producers: Newer, still running but with a different cast

And of course, the classics of Grease and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Too many to mention.

I've always been fond of "Mary Poppins", "The Sound of Music", "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", "Music Man" and the list continues...

I don't really know why I would prefer older versus newer musicals. Maybe because they've withstood the test of time. Who knows?

ooh, and Grease, Chicago, Annie Get Your Gun, Victor/Victoria...

My favorites:
Moulin Rouge
Chicago
The Phantom of the Opera
Rent

I prefer the newer musicals because older musicals have a song every five minutes about the stupidest things and thus you find yourself getting bored with the movie altogether because you simply see no point to it. The newer flicks don't do that.

Chicago, the songs are the best and it is very entertaining. I have seen it twice on stage and watched the movie at least 100 times.
