That depends on what they look for in the test. It also depends on how long ago you took it. I think it stays in the system for 5 to 7 days. I had the same problem, except I went to the job interview, took the drug test and it came back positive for codeine. They wanted my prescription, I gave it to them and they said it was too old. so don't take any narcotics that are over a year old. They will consider it illegal. This really aggravates me.

Yes, it will show as an opiate.
If your drug testing procedure is sound, there should be a question asking if you've taken any cold/cough medicines.
Also, get your parent to write a note or explain in person. It will only look suspicious if you try to hide it.

Codeine will usually pass through your system in 72 hours, but if it's been less than 72 hours it will show as an Opiate.

It will be out of your system. But if you are concerned about it, obtain a copy of your chart to verify that it was prescribed to you, and let your employer or whomever is requesting the test about the situation.
Taking drugs that are prescribed is not illegal.
